The Winter Lettuce Story - Day 18

Day 18 and yet more change. It’s so nice now that the weather is starting to turn to head over to see how well the lettuce is growing. Happiness in a pot!

We thought it was about time to have a better look at the setup we’ve got. As said before we’re showing how simple a system can be to grow plants with hydroponics. A tray, some mesh pots, seeds and a light, next to no equipment. The last ingredient being the nutrients. We use our own Hydrofeed Complete nutrient which contains everything these lettuce need. We sell it in our shop and highly recommend it.

We have a simple mechanical timer and an LED grow light. We’ve rigged up a means of holding the light at a set height using pieces of old copper pipe. We can show you the design in another post. On the right hand side and front left we have “Salad Leaves Speedy Mix” growing. All planted at the same time the one at the back right is a monster!. At the back left we have a chilli pepper. It’s called “Spangles Twilight” and is just emerging. It takes a bit longer to germinate than the lettuce but we’re excited to see how it develops (you can find it in our shop if you want to try it as well)
